Monkey Bottom
studio collaborative and gallery space
Our intent is to foster the creative community spirit in Durham. MoBo
space may be used for any of the forces of Good: classes, art exhibits,
music, video, dance, parties: ongoing or singular.
The name comes from an area located about a mile from here that was once one of the bottom dwelling areas around the bustling mills of Durham. The story is that one day some monkeys escaped from what was then the nearby Erwin Auditorium. Supposedly the monkeys were never recovered.
The Auditorium and the mills are gone and the Durham Freeway paved it's way through Monkey Bottom. But what of the monkeys?
